About Identity

A mailer, member database, and so much more, for digital activism.

Developers Users Guide API Docs

Identity is a Ruby on Rails application you run on your own server with your own developer. Currently about 15 activist organisations across the world are using Identity to receive member activity data from external services like member signups, donations, petition creation and signatures, and store it in a central location for their campaigners and organisers to target further communication like blast email, SMS, and more.

Developers and users alike are encouraged to read and contribute to the Identity Vision doc found here.

Identity has its own built-in services for sending mail, SMS, and web push notifications, and the creation of facebook custom audiences. Integrations exist for bi-directional data flow between several external systems; a predictive dialer phone-banking tool called Kooragang; a automated dialer tool called Robotargeter; and a peer-to-peer SMS tool called Spoke.

Identity also integrates with a host of other services, and gives your developers the power to write any other integration you wish.

  1. ControlShift: A full-featured integration with the leading member-led-campaigning tech that most organisations in the OPEN Network use. Integration by the original developers, 38 Degrees.
  2. Analytics: A sophisticated, purpose-built Analytics app by Identity’s original development team at 38 Degrees, which uses Redshift to create powerful data visualisations, benchmarks, projections, segment comparisons, and more.
  3. Speakout: Built from the start to work directly with Speakout, the most commonly used call-to-action tool in our network.
  4. Spoke Events: A powerful integration by GetUp, inspired by and built for their national field operations, this integration pushes data into Spoke’s peer-to-peer texting interface to turn it into a powerful tool for asking and recording RSVPs to events whether it’s one big rally or a nationwide day of action.
  5. Do Paisa: A sophisticated, production-tested, but not fully complete, donations microservice by OPEN. Supports Stripe and GoCardless.
  6. Skram.la: A sophisticated, full-featured, end-to-end donations system by Skiftet. Supports Stripe, Swish, and GoCardless.
  7. Stripe, Paypal and RazorPay: Identity also integrates directly with some payment processor services.
  8. ChatFuel: A chat bot for Facebook Messenger that will encourage recurring donors to renew lapsed donations, with conversation scripts/flows written by your campaigner/fundraiser team. Integration by DeClic.
  9. FreshDesk: Your member services volunteers, support team, or case workers can manage user subscriptions or sign them onto actions directly through their freshdesk interface based on 1 on 1 conversations with your members. Integratios by DeClic and Akcja Demokracja.
  10. TypeForm: Engaging, responsive, interactive member surveys or petition microsites by TypeForm, with all the data flowing back into the CRM.
  11. NationBuilder: Sync volunteer data and event signups with your NationBuilder account. Sync written by GetUp. (We also have scripts to import NB data to help folks switch.)
  12. Dispatch: Another of GetUp’s field organising integrations, dispatch takes Identity lists and schedules each person for the outreach most appropriate for the moment and the audience, from robo calls or surveys, to volunteer phone calls or text campaigns.
  13. WordPress, SquareSpace, any website: A simple code snippet can connect your web page’s signup form to the subscription API. By OPEN.
  14. Facebook Ads: Push any target list into the Facebook API to create a targeting set for ads. Good for reminding them about an election, chasing recurring donors, running member surveys, re-engaging lapsed members in new actions. Integration by 38 Degrees.
